A Cultural and Artistic Celebration: Honouring Afghanistan’s Eminent Artist Sami Nadi

 

On September 9, 2024, the Afghanistan Diaspora for piece (ADFP) organization hosted an event in London to celebrate the contributions of Sami Naiad, one of Afghanistan’s most prominent artists. The gathering brought together over 100   attendees, including cultural figures, human rights and women’s rights advocates, art enthusiasts, and representatives from British and Afghan business communities.

Opening Remarks and ADFP’s Vision

The event commenced with a welcoming speech by Mrs Hafiza Nadi, the Director of ADFP based in London. She expressed her gratitude to the attendees and outlined the organization’s goals. Emphasizing the need for collaboration among cultural, civil, and social organizations, Mrs Hafiza Nadi highlighted ADFP’s commitment to addressing critical issues, particularly the plight of Afghan women and the urgent need to ensure educational opportunities for girls.

Speakers and Key Highlights

The ceremony featured distinguished speakers who shared their insights and experiences, reflecting on Sami Naiad’s legacy and broader cultural and societal themes. Key speeches were delivered by:

Rahila Sediqi, representing ADFP, Engineer Abdullah Nadi, representing Sami Naiad’s family, and Tamim Antoniadis, the Ninja Theory Founder Additionally, the following notable individuals contributed with them

 expertise and perspectives:

Kiran Lachmun, who introduced business leaders and their role in cultural initiatives.

Tina Knight, Chairperson of Women into Business, who highlighted the importance of empowering women in entrepreneurial spaces.

John May, Chairman of Genesis Initiative Limited & Small Business Bureau Limited, discussing the interplay between small businesses and cultural development.

Garry Carter, Co-Founder and President of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), shedding light on economic opportunities tied to arts and culture.

Professor Mark Watson Gandy, OBE, a practicing barrister and founder of KidsMBA, addressing the intersection of education and cultural preservation.

 

Musical Performances and Artistic Integration

Concluding the event, the audience enjoyed a vibrant musical segment featuring performances that blended Afghan, British, and Greek traditions, showcasing the universality and richness of cultural exchange.

The event served as a powerful platform for cultural appreciation, dialogue, and solidarity, emphasizing the shared responsibility of addressing critical challenges in society.
